Things have sure changed at Owasso Stadium in the past year.
The completion of the Wellness Center has opened up a whole new world to the school, and with that, Owasso High School Athletic Director Danny Hightower has announced the Ram Room will be open for the upcoming football season.
The Ram Room, located on the third floor of the Wellness Center, will be available for patrons to eat before each home game, watch the game from the north end zone and stay out of the elements if they choose.
There will be 25 tables with six chairs per table for purchase for the five home games plus any home playoff games.
The cost per chair is $250 for the season, which includes a meal, a general admission ticket and a place to watch the game. The cost for an entire table for the season is $1,200, or $200 per chair.
“After we checked with Union and Jenks — the two schools that have that facility at the end of the field — we took the best of both of their ideas,” Hightower said. “You can watch the game from there, or they can go out to the stadium to watch the game from there. Only those people who have paid will be allowed in the Ram Room.”
The Ram Room will open at 6:30 p.m. before each home game. Guests will enter from the east lobby and take the elevator to the third floor to enjoy their catered meal from local restaurants.
“It is a fundraiser,” Hightower said. “This is our one fundraiser for the athletic department. The way the school funding from the state is going right now, it will hopefully help with some of our deficit. We basically run our athletic department on ticket sales, so this will be our one opportunity. If someone wants to help our athletic department, this does not go to one specific sport, it just goes to the athletic department to use.”
Three of the first four football games this season will be at home. Contact the department at (918) 272-1867 to reserve your space in the Ram Room.
Ticket Pricing
It’s not usually said that Owasso High School is behind the times when compared to anyone else, but when it comes to ticket pricing, the Rams are behind.
“We’ve been lower than other Tulsa area schools, 5A and 6A schools, we were on the low end of prices,” Hightower said.
After checking area ticket prices for sporting events, Owasso schools has decided to slightly increase its ticket prices for home events, with some of the new prices still being lower than other area schools.
The cost of reserve season tickets for football will increase by $1 a game, going from $40 to $45 for the season. Most other schools are charging $50 for reserve season tickets, according to Hightower.
The cost of a single reserve ticket will jump from $8 to $10. General admission tickets, which were $5 across the board last year, will now be $7 for adults and will remain $5 for students.
All other varsity sports will remain the same: $5 for adults and $3 for students. However, a slight increase will occur for non-varsity games and events, increasing from $3 for adults and $2 for students to $4 for adults and $3 for students.
“We’ve kind of been behind on that,” Hightower said. “After checking with other conference schools our size, that is the norm.”
Reserve tickets will go on sale at the end of July, as well as 200 stadium parking passes for home games.
No new turf...yet
After a lawsuit delayed the start of construction on replacing the new football field turf at Owasso Stadium, it has been decided to postpone the replacement of the new turf until next summer.
The lawsuit, filed by one of the bidders for the job, forced the school district to pull all bids and start the process all over again. With all the work which was expected to be done on the field — tearing out the old turf, drainage and the installation of the new turf — it was not expected to be completed before the season began.
